In The Works: Fox Stories

As the 5G network goes live, a blogger follows the 5th generation of local urban foxes, whose behaviour is taking an unexpected, disturbing turn...

In the style of HG Wells' War of the Worlds, The Fox In The Back Garden explores different perceptions of urban foxes, and how animal behaviour in a totally unnatural environment can affect us, too.

A blogger keeps a record of her local 'resident' foxes, their struggles, their ups and downs. One of a 5th generation of kits is bolder than the rest, fearlessly approaching the human residents, almost tame enough to call a pet, and a little too clever for its own good.

But as she investigates the foxes intelligence, a disturbing correlation with her blog begins to take shape...

Inspiration

Wholeheartedly based on the fox family drama in my own garden. Some people may be upset with this idea. I would suggest that people who do not like urban foxes do not follow this story.

Having watched several fox kits grow up, helped rescue one, and tragically failed to save another, I am very fond of the adaptable canines. THe star of the story is the 'Lone Ranger', the bravest fox I've ever known. She would wait on the doorstep watching us, sun bathed on top of the barbeque, and was a heartwarmingly trusting wild animal. She disappeared three years ago.

The other aspect of this story is under spoilers.

Status

Half written. Which is to say, there are 10,000 unedited words already, and I've only just reached halfway in the plot. Now we get to the creepy part.
