Conversations With Grant
ISBN: 978-1-7397000-0-3
From Affinities, a collection of extracts, extras and the many, many conversations that make up Nix’s whirlwind tour of mathematics.

Hate maths? Forgotten everything you learned in school?

In a tiny teashop in a corner of London, Nix Grimms & Grant O’Neil sit down to talk about maths.

Nix does not like maths.

Under the astute eyes of the barista – with her suspicious knack for complex equations – Grant has just one year to convince Nix that numbers aren’t just for the boffins.

Drop the dry numbers: this is a ride through the hotchpotch chronology of mathematics, from cave men counting to the event horizon of a black hole.
And how both of those things apply to real life a bit more than you’d expect.

Affinities follows the lives of Nix Grimms and Jaali Kamau, two very different people on either side of the elephant poaching crisis.

From an early age, Nix forms a bond with elephants, resulting in a lifelong passion for endangered species. Her obsession mobilizes a group of likeminded individuals with diverse skill-sets. With the backing of an enigmatic patron, they use cutting age technology to attack the illegal ivory trade in radical new ways. However, on the opposite side of the conflict, Jaali has grown up surrounded by poaching. Immersed in the trade, he struggles to reconcile his beliefs with his family’s wishes. As Nix and her friends bring the war on ivory to all fronts, Jaali rises through the ranks, slaughtering his way to riches even as his family fractures around him.

Will A.I. controlled drones and genetic modification be enough to save elephants from extinction? Or will the inexorable demand for fresh ivory bring this tragedy to its inevitable conclusion?

The Fox In The Back Garden
Coming Later!

A blogger keeps a record of her local 'resident' foxes, their struggles, their ups and downs. Having watched several kits grow up, helped rescue one, and tragically failed to save another, she cannot help reaching out to the wild, wary animals.
As the 5G network goes live, one of a fifth generation of kits is bolder than the rest, fearlessly approaching the human residents, almost tame enough to call a pet, and a little too clever for its own good.
But as she investigates the foxes intelligence, a disturbing correlation with her blog begins to take shape...
